picIn collaboration with the Nova 619 web comic crew at Cosmic Book News, Deviant Art and Nova Prime Page, this is a chance for Cosmic fans who have a bit of an artistic talent to design a new character to appear in a Nova 619 story in 2012.

The challenge is to design the new character Promethian, aka Dark Nova! OK, Supernova was a bad Nova, a bit mad ... well, totally insane, to be exact. But a true Xandarian villain? Well, yes and no. He had his ups and downs, but Dark Nova, he's another story.

So here’s the challenge: Design the look of what Dark Nova should be. The basic guidelines to follow when coming up with a design are as follows:

In Nova's very first comic appearance (A Man Called Nova #1, Vol. 1 1976) after getting his powers, teen Richard Rider contemplated whether to use his new powers for good or evil. He made the right choice, but what if he'd decided to go the other way?  What if Richard Rider has been a bad guy, even worse than when he was a Select? What if the Xandarians had created a load of super-bad Centurions that would do anything to get the job done, no matter what it took? Even turning to the dark side of the Nova Force?

A. He's about 6 feet, 2 inches; male; in his early 20's.

B. Promethian’s identity will be a shocker, so when designing his costume who or what he may be must be kept mysterious as well as deadly. Remember that when designing the look of his helmet.

C. His powers are equal to Nova's (flight, super-strength, energy blasts, etc.), but do you have any cool ideas of other nasty powers he could have?

The winning design will feature in the story, "No Place Like Home: Dark Nova," due for late 2012. The winner's design will be drawn by one of the Nova 619 team -- penciled, inked and colored. Also the winner will get full credit for the design when Promethian debuts.  Isn’t that cool?

Entries will be judged by Cosmic Book News' Matt McGloin and Nova Prime Page's Doug Smith. The closing date of the competition will be September 30, 2011. You can post your art -- online art only -- at http://novaprime.deviantart.com/. You will have to join Deviant Art as a member, but it is free. You may also send your entries to [email protected]. Entries will be put in the gallery for you.

The winner will be notified by email so make sure you supply an email address. The winner will also be announced on Cosmic Book News, Nova Prime Page and Nova Prime Deviant Art.
