Jonathan Hickman continues writing his long form living saga of cosmic greatness and Avengers #14 this week is another tale of world-breakers, broken systems and false codes.

One really has to appreciate the work Hickman is doing, all the while carrying on a continuing story while also jamming in the summer "event" of Infinity.

It is to Hickman's credit as a writer that he has been able to do this and keep his characters, while sometimes just faces in the crowd, basically interesting and in-voice for the most part.

The down side of that example is also in this issue of Avengers where all the new crew is on deck and, with the exceptions of Bruce Banner and Captain America, are only background players rather than the characters that we want them to be at crucial times like these.

The art by Stefano Casselli  is beautiful and totally alien-looking, as it has been on the artist rotation system since #1. Just gorgeous, adding to the script of Hickman and his current cohort, Nick Spencer.

Kudos also to colorist Frank Martin for a wonderful pallette.

We are building, it seems, not to a climax but to a first crescendo. Hickman's song, with or without Infinity, is certainly one worth listening to.

Another cosmic need-to-read!
