Review: Flash #9

As the Scarlet Speedster continues his running ways through the New 52 landscape, I must say I am overjoyed that he is being handled in such a wonderful and exploratory way by writers Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato.

Flash#9 continues the writers’ story of high adventure as Gorilla Grodd makes his debut in the new DCU. Barry Allen travels to the realm of GorillaCity(for the first time!) and comes into contact with -- the Runners.

This book is so wonderful that it is hard to believe the Flash -- well, Barry Allen -- was not only dead for awhile but also the victim of severe cancellation strain. I think it is (almost) safe to say that this direction by Manapul and Buccellato, featuring the beautiful and lush artwork by Manapul (with Buccellato on colors yet) has our hero well in hand.

I mean, look at that opener on Page 2! When has a Gorilla Guy ever looked so savage?

The work that I really appreciate here is a definitive vision for our much-beleaguered and much-misunderstood Scarlet Speedster. These scribes really seem to know where the Flash is going and, like Geoff Johns not long ago, are not afraid to take him there and allow us to come along.

My hopes are high for this book featuring one of the premiere players in the DCU. It is about time the Flash got the respect (and stories) he should be afforded!
