Review: Soldier Zero #12

Thank the Inheritors, it is over!

A dozen issues ago, a powerful parasitic alien force fused with our boy, paraplegic war vet Stew Trautmann, giving him powers beyond mortal men. In so doing, it also set Stew on a war with himself as he sought to master this tech while trying to figure out how to survive the dopey situations into which writers kept dropping him.

With #12, the final issue of Soldier Zero, we have some feast-for-the-eye but unfortunately not script saving art by Javier Pina. It seems that CBN fan fave scribes Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning left the “wonder of it all” adventure feel of cosmic writing on Knowhere, or maybe with Nova and Star-Lord in the Cancerverse (Marvel refs, sorry), but it has been evident no where in Soldier Zero since before or after DnA came aboard.

Not to throw the baby out with the bath water. The concept by the Man Stan Lee was a fine one, but this BOOM! Studios crossover seemed to fail to cross over. And as issue piled upon issue, not even Pina and colorist Archie Van Buren could save Stewart … or the readers he had left.

As at least Stew comes to a mental agreement with his alien tech about the reasons for Solider Zero. I can definitely state the reason for this being the last issue (at least as far as this reviewer knows) …

This book stunk!
