4843 Spoilers follow.

Today sees the controversial Amazing Spider-Man #700 hit local comic shops that sees a Spider-Man villain triumphant.

Doc Ock recently succeeded in switching bodies with Peter Parker, and in today's issue, finally defeats his long time nemesis.

However, instead of going on to be a "bad" guy in the body of Parker, it turns out that Doc Ock is going to become -- Batman?

"We want to do Spider-Man by way of Batman — a little creepier and darker," Marvel Editor Stephen Wacker told USA Today.

Apparently, the villainous Doc Ock - who switched bodies and may have killed Parker as well as took his girlfriend - has an epiphany while in Pete' body and decides to become more of a do-gooder -- with an attitude.

"It's also what the good part of our first year of Superior is about: Doc behaving in a manner he's not accustomed to. We see a more sympathetic side of Doctor Octopus," Wacker said. "We couldn't have a Spider-Man who was running around murdering people. And I have no interest in seeing that sort of character win."

Writer Dan Slott offers that Doc Ock changes his ways because he has a second chance.

"This is a guy who was a couple steps way from a bucket list, and now he's got a whole new lease on life. That's really going to change him."

"Superior Spider-Man" #1 launches January 9th.
