I like this one.

Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead #100, with a half dozen or so variant covers, beat out this week's Uncanny Avengers #1, with almost two dozen covers.

Kirkman's TWD #100 sold close to 400,000 copies back in July, around 380,000.

Sales for Uncanny Avengers #1 were revealed* by Marvel at a retailer meeting at the New York Comic-Con to sell around 300,000, describing it as "the best selling superhero comic of the year." (my emphasis)

• "superhero" - obviously referencing The Walking Dead #100

• "year" - obviously referencing Justice League #1 that sold a total of 360,000 in 2011.

Could the reason sales didn't reach that marvelous threshold is because this has already "been there, done that" and Marvel is just playing catch up?

DC already relaunched their line, quite successfully, and Kirkman already did the numerous variant cover thing, quite successfully.

Or could it be that Marvel is limiting their audience as it's all Avengers?

As a Marvel Cosmic fan I know that I have stopped all purchases of Marvel comics, what happens when the X crowd does the same?

One last question: How have Bendis' sales on Avengers been?

(*Thanks to Bleeding Cool for the info)
